Woodmill High School

Senior Awards 2021

In the midst of a challenging year we want to celebrate the success and resilience of our young people, even if in a virtual way!

Review of the year

As the school year started in August 2020 we were emerging from what felt like an unprecedented situation, which we hoped would never be repeated. The fire, a lockdown and for the first time Scottish qualifications awarded with no examinations. However, as we returned to school, having planned for staggered groups of pupils and blended learning, we were glad to have the majority together for learning in the building. Additionally, it was superb to have the replacement for the new building and DAS all but complete, though it would take until October for all the pupils to finally be back on one site. As the October holidays ended and we welcomed our DAS young people back, for the first time in over a year, it became clear that this 'new normal' was still nowhere near the old normal. The challenges of teaching, and keeping our young people, their families and the staff safe, the use of sanitiser, face coverings, track and trace, maintaining social distancing were a daily experience for all. As we completed an assessment opportunity for your young people in S4-6 and with the much needed Christmas holiday on the horizon the next stage of the year seemed challenging but the lockdown that followed was a greater challenge than we expected. Learning from home, with it's difficulties for pupils, families, and staff were one more challenge in a two year period that had tested us all. Though this impacted on us at the time, and will have impact in the future, we learned the lesson that if we continue to work together, and remember that We Are Woodmill, we can tackle the challenges and emerge from the other side more resilient than we often think we are.
